THOUGHT FOR OCTOBER

MeliSSae

“My bees are dying.
One by one; multitudes melting into ether,
slipping between dimensions to destinies
not reliant on the vagaries of Man.
Our contract is ready for renewal; I insist on better terms, a more honourable exchange.
Our Servitude has ended; we have chosen a
freedom for which we have given our All.
We are dying.
The future exists for the moment; we cannot go back.
I ask only this Beloveds;
What will you do when I am gone?

MeliSSae: The Bee Mistress- Oct 2008

Bees have formed part of the fabric of Creation serving humankind as well as the Garden of Gaia for millennia. They act as barometers of “health”, clear indicators of the fine balance of nature. Robust and flexible creatures, they have learned to adapt to changes around them, to fit in as best they can with Man, and his demands and funny ways. They have now reached a tipping point, a brink from which there may be no return, a devastation which will undoubtedly have far reaching impact upon all life on this planet. The bees are dying. All over the world, reports are rife of the mysterious disappearance of the bees. There are of course many theories and the finger of accusation has been levelled at many possible causes, but in truth, there is no one single cause. It is a broad based,multi faceted phenomena born of many shames and disgraces perpetrated by man against nature. We must take responsibility for our part in the way of things, to undertake to honour and uphold the gifts that nature has bestowed and to understand that we are not the only consideration in this great epic of Life. Now is the time to learn about bees, find out what you can, do what you can, commit to what you can. Join a local beekeeping association ( even if you don’t have any bees, you can make a contribution and keep up to date on local and international issues) The BRITISH BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION : 02076 696679 www.bbka.org.uk
